SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — July 15, 2026 — Independent cinematic indie pop duo Marie Alexander will release their new single and accompanying narrative dance film, Already Broken, on July 24, 2026. Blending atmospheric production, emotionally charged songwriting, and cinematic storytelling, the project marks the duo's most immersive release to date.
Already Broken begins with a realization: sometimes the hardest part of healing isn't letting go—it's recognizing you've been trying to save something that was already broken.
Written by Sarah Marie Picard and Noah Alexander, the song explores the quiet moment when clarity finally outweighs hope. Rather than centering on heartbreak alone, Already Broken examines the emotional patterns that keep us holding on long after we've lost ourselves, ultimately becoming an anthem for choosing yourself and moving forward with honesty.
Recorded at Parsonics Studio in Santa Barbara, Already Broken blends cinematic alternative pop with dark electronic textures, drawing inspiration from artists such as Florence + The Machine, Billie Eilish, and Radiohead while carving out a distinctly emotional and atmospheric sound of its own.
To extend that emotional journey beyond the song, Marie Alexander partnered with choreographer Holden Maples to create an original narrative dance film released alongside the single. Rather than functioning as a traditional music video, the film uses movement as a storytelling language—capturing the emotions that exist beyond words and expanding the story into a fully immersive visual experience.
